Let’s Talk About Perimenopause: A Clinical Training for Therapists
Continuing Education Training (1.5 CEs)
Course Description: This course is a clinical introduction to perimenopause – the vulnerable years leading up to menopause. While clinicians are trained on working with many life transitions, most are undereducated on the multi-year process of going through perimenopause. This common experience impacts women and people AFAB (assigned female at birth) and is uniquely different for each individual ranging from mild to moderate to severe symptoms. This course aims to provide education on identifying and defining perimenopause, a review of the range of symptoms, treatments, and interventions to support clients. The course will take into account cultural considerations and utilize feminist, human-centered, and behavioral interventions.

MORE INFORMATION:
Educational Goals:
This workshop aims to:
To develop practical skills for working with clients going through perimenopause. While this life transition might seem comparable to other life changes or medical issues, perimenopause includes a variety of unique symptoms including physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms.
The course focuses on helping clinicians understand how perimenopausal clients may be vulnerable to exacerbated mental health symptoms, interpersonal conflicts, and challenging work dynamics that are unique to the perimenopausal years.
This course aims to develop an understanding of how clinicians can support clients going through perimenopause within the scope of talk therapy. The course will also provide an overview of out-of-scope treatment options that clients would be able to explore in their own autonomy.
Measurable Learning Objectives:
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
Participants will be able to identify four common symptoms of perimenopause
Participants will be able to utilize three interventions for working with a perimenopausal client
Participants will be able to distinguish between two in-scope and two out-of-scope treatment interventions for perimenopause
