Menstrual Cycles & Mental Health CE

MORE INFORMATION:

Educational Goals:
1. To provide clinicians with a foundational knowledge of the menstrual cycle including commonly reported signs, symptoms, and phases that can impact people who menstruate.
2. To help clinicians identify ways menstrual cycles intersect with mental health symptoms and diagnoses. This will include how to accurately assess for and identify menstrual related diagnoses, as well as consider co-occurring disorders and common misdiagnoses, to assist with improving mindfully-informed treatment.
3. The course also aims to give clinicians the tools to validate mental health symptoms related to menstrual cycles and model acceptance and empathy for clients’ individual growth. As a part of an ever-present need to provide inclusive and de-colonized care, this course assists participants in identifying biases within themselves and within society as a whole, to better assist with providing client-centered care as well as assisting clients with developing informed self-advocacy skills.
4. This course is designed to provide clinicians with the knowledge of current clinical treatment options for treating PMDD as the information provided in graduate programs is, at best, limited; despite a significant portion of the population experiencing menstrual cycles and the correlating impacts.

Measurable Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to identify four phases of the menstrual cycle.
2. Participants will be able to distinguish three key areas that differentiate PMDD from other mental health disorders.
3. Participants will be able to identify and compare two common misdiagnoses of
PMDD.
4. Participants will be able to specify three current treatment options for PMDD according to clinical treatment options recommended by the International Association of Premenstrual Disorders (IAPMD).
