Betsy Ginsburg, AMFT, APCC (she/her)
BIO:
My name is Betsy (she/her), and I’m a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (CA #138057) and registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (CA #9623) at Spaces Therapy, working under the supervision of both Kelli Penner and Ludine Pierre.
I take an integrative approach to therapy, recognizing that each of us is unique and needs different things from the therapeutic process. This often means working within our relationship to notice patterns, gain insight, and experiment with new ways of relating. Utilizing presence, openness, and even humor, we can find ways for therapy to be meaningful and valuable to you. At Spaces Therapy, I believe that at our core, we are relational beings who thrive when we feel connected to ourselves, to each other, and to the world around us. Therapy can be a journey that leads us back to our true nature, fostering increased self-compassion by inviting your full self into the space.
Guiding Principles:
At our core, we are relational beings who thrive when we feel connected to ourselves, to each other, and to the world around us. When we endure painful experiences, or simply learn to abandon our wants and needs in exchange for belonging, we can become out of touch with our true nature. Therapy can be a journey that leads us back in order to move forward. I believe that curiosity, understanding, and acceptance are key in creating a space where increased self-compassion is possible. By inviting your full self into the space, little-by-little, we can work towards understanding relational or behavioral patterns that are no longer serving you and help find your way to an overall more authentic, self-trusting, and connected version of yourself.
My Style of Therapy:
Accepting
A solid therapeutic relationship forms the foundation of our work together. I strive to create a space where you can be your whole self and feel truly heard, attuned to, and understood. Feeling known and accepted often cultivates more self-acceptance and compassion. I bring warmth, empathy, and unconditional positive regard, meeting you where you are.
Exploratory
I operate from the belief that there's no set agenda in therapy. We'll follow what feels most important, interesting, or alive for you in any given session, trusting that where we end up is right where we belong. This curiosity allows us to explore various experiences that may be influencing your present and delve deeper into challenging areas, supporting both anxiety therapy and relationship therapy.
Holistic
In therapy, it's crucial to explore and integrate all parts of you that exist and deserve attention. We'll consider what has shaped who you are, including your past, upbringing, relationships, environment, and systemic context. By inviting your mind, body, and spirit into the space, we take a whole-person approach to healing.
Collaborative
Therapy is largely about our ability to connect and work together. You'll always know yourself better than I will, but the more you share, the more I can ask questions and offer observations based on my expertise to see if they resonate with you. This process of discovery empowers you to gain clarity on what's holding you back and how to move forward authentically, especially in Couples Therapy or when addressing anxiety in relationships.
