Betsy Ginsburg, AMFT, APCC (she/her)
BIO:
My name is Betsy (she/her), and I’m a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (CA #138057) and registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (CA #9623) working under the supervision of both Kelli Penner and Ludine Pierre.
I take an integrative approach to therapy, realizing that we are all so unique and in need of different things when it comes to the therapeutic process. This often means working within the relationship to notice patterns, gain insight, and experiment with new ways of relating. Utilizing presence, openness, and even humor, together we can find ways for therapy to be meaningful and valuable to you.
Guiding Principles:
At our core, we are relational beings who thrive when we feel connected to ourselves, to each other, and to the world around us. When we endure painful experiences, or simply learn to abandon our wants and needs in exchange for belonging, we can become out of touch with our true nature. Therapy can be a journey that leads us back in order to move forward. I believe that curiosity, understanding, and acceptance are key in creating a space where increased self-compassion is possible. By inviting your full self into the space, little-by-little, we can work towards understanding relational or behavioral patterns that are no longer serving you and help find your way to an overall more authentic, self-trusting, and connected version of yourself.
My Style of Therapy:
Accepting
A solid therapeutic relationship creates the foundation for our work together. In our sessions, I strive to create a space where you can be your whole self and feel truly heard, attuned to, and understood. Feeling known and accepted for who you are often helps to cultivate more self-acceptance and compassion. I feel honored to be trusted with your story and I aim to bring warmth, empathy, and unconditional positive regard into the room, meeting you where you are and helping you move forward in a new way.
Exploratory
II operate from the belief that there is no set agenda in therapy. We will follow what feels most important, interesting, or alive for you in any given session, trusting that where we end up is right where we belong. Staying curious and open gives us the ability to explore various experiences in your life that may be influencing your present, as well as allowing space to dive a bit deeper into the places that might feel a little more challenging at times. There is no one way to do therapy and we can always keep discussing how sessions are feeling, what is most helpful, and how we can shift together as we go.
Holistic
n the process of therapy, I believe that it’s important to explore and integrate all parts of you that exist and deserve attention. We will take into consideration what has shaped who you are including, your past/upbringing, relationships, environment, and systemic context. By inviting your mind, body, and spirit to be present in the space we are able to take a whole-person approach to healing.
Collaborative
Therapy is largely about our ability to connect and work together. You will always know yourself better than I will know you, but the more you’re able to share, the more I’m able to ask questions and check out observations or interpretations based on my expertise and what I’m noticing to see if they resonate with you. If they don’t, great! That just means we’ve learned something else along the way. This process of discovery can be empowering, as you gain clarity on what is holding you back and how to move forward in a more authentic and aligned way.
