Janie Glassmith, LMFT, Founder (she/her)
BIO:
I'm Janie, she/her, LFMT (CA 93106, NY 002018-01, TX 204374, WA LF61192973, CO 0002889), the Founder and Executive Director of Spaces Therapy, and a dedicated therapist.
My clinical approach is relational and depth-oriented, rooted in attachment theory. I believe that understanding your past and its connection to present struggles is key to creating lasting change. Clients often describe me as gentle and collaborative, and I find these qualities, combined with humor, help them feel comfortable and confident in taking steps toward the life they desire. At Spaces Therapy, my guiding principle is authenticity; I believe genuine human connection forms the bedrock of healing, fostering a space where you can truly be yourself. This commitment extends to my practice, where I integrate continuous learning about diverse experiences to offer deeply empathetic and grounded care, especially for those seeking relationship therapy or addressing anxiety in relationships.
Guiding Principles:
My guiding principle in therapy is authenticity. I believe genuine human connection is the bedrock of healing. In the therapy room, I strive to be myself, fostering a space where you can also be your true self. This authenticity extends to my therapeutic practice. I am deeply rooted in the theories and causes that resonate with me, rather than chasing popular psychology trends. For example, my enduring passion for Attachment Theory, ignited in 2012, remains an anchor in my work, providing a stable foundation even as I integrate new techniques and perspectives. Authentic connection also demands continuous learning. I am dedicated to expanding my understanding of diverse experiences – gender, race, socioeconomic background, and beyond – through ongoing study and reflection. This commitment ensures that I can offer a deeper, more empathetic connection to every individual who shares their journey with me. My goal is to create a therapeutic experience that is both grounded and expansive, reflecting the richness of human experience and fostering genuine connection.
My Style of Therapy:
Warm
The client's relationship with their therapist is the most important marker for change. I openly show my clients that I care for them and am fully present in their journey to greater well-being. You'll feel my warmth and support throughout our work together.
Collaborative
You are the expert on your own story, and I bring my expertise in psychology and attachment theory. Together, we explore what weighs you down and collaboratively create plans to lighten those burdens. I always check in to ensure we're aligned and that you're getting what you need, valuing your insights as much as my own observations.
Direct
When I notice patterns, I'll communicate them clearly. Clients who work with me aren't typically looking for a passive listener; I actively share my observations, clarify parts of your story for deeper understanding, and provide relevant resources. You won't have to wonder what I'm thinking; I'll tell you and ensure it resonates with your experience.
I’m Particularly Good at Working With:
